COMMENTS ON THE TRAINING PROGRAMMES
Programme 1. Objectives and targets
In your mental space (which you have acquired through mental basic training), you can take a mental journey into the future and see yourself playing golf even better than you do now. These images of development, which you create and integrate, will then guide your training and lead your body to achieving your goals.
Programme 2. Preparations for a training session
This programme is intended to be used before training sessions. Based on the long-term development plan that you programmed in programme 1, you can break it down into specific sub-goals for each training session. Create target images of what you want the training session to lead to. These goals instruct your body on what to do, which means that you can relax and ”let your body do the work” while you concentrate on giving your body the ”feedback” it needs.
Programme 3. Concentration training
In this programme, you will create two ”triggers” that you then link to a previous experience of total concentration. The aim is for you to automatically become concentrated as soon as you are about to hit or putt, and to do so in such a natural way that you don't even have to think about it.
Programme 4. Problem solving and attitude training
The title could also be ”Mental Toughness Training”. The aim is to teach you to grow by seeing problems as ”tasks to be solved” and as challenges that constantly make you stronger both as a golfer and as a person. The programme also helps you maintain a positive attitude regardless of what happens on the golf course.
Programme 5. Golf joy and joyful golf
Training with this programme aims to give you even greater joy and satisfaction from your golf game. Irritation and frustration will disappear from the golf course forever, and golf will become a source of joy and enjoyment that will spread to the rest of your life.
Programme 6. Competition preparations
When you are in the flow, everything comes easily, good shots and putts become second nature, your body knows what to do and you don't need to think. To get there, it's important that you ”tell” your body what to do before the competition. Since the body is controlled by internal images, you do a visual review of the competition in your mind and ”see” your body doing exactly what you want it to do. When you then arrive at the competition, you can calmly and confidently leave the actual performance to your body.
INTRODUCTION
This series of programmes can be used either separately or as part of a larger training package, where these programmes constitute the final stages. Ideally, you should have completed the basic mental training and self-image training before starting the mental training preparations. In any case, you should have practised creating a ”mental space”, as the programmes in this training programme build on and make use of this mental space.
MENTAL TRAINING – GOLF
How many times has it been said that the mental aspect is crucial in golf? Golf is probably the sport where the importance of mental training is most evident. The game is so simple when it works, but it becomes complicated, to say the least, when things go wrong. But even though the mental aspect probably accounts for 70-80% of the result, mental training still accounts for a modest part of most golfers” training. This may be largely due to a lack of knowledge about how to go about it. That is what mental training programmes aim to remedy. You will get the best results if you have already done the basic mental training before starting these programmes. You should practise the first programme 5-7 times before continuing with programme 3, which you also practise 5-7 times before programme 4 and then programme 5. The only exceptions are programme 2, which can and should be used before you go out to practise, and programme 6, which you use to prepare for the competitions you participate in.
